On April 8th and 9th  2025, the SISTERS project participated in the Research to Impact showcase event held at the MTU Cork campus in Bishopstown, Cork, Ireland. Organised by the MTU Research Office, the event aimed to highlight research activities across MTU campuses and foster multidisciplinary collaboration.

The showcase brought together MTU researchers, the National Contact Point for Horizon Europe, and senior representatives from Research Ireland and Enterprise Ireland representatives. The agenda included networking sessions, panel discussions on Horizon Europe, and conversations about interdisciplinary research's importance, risks, and opportunities.

Krishna Panduru from MTU presented the SISTERS project poster during the event. The poster highlighted the project’s goals, with a particular focus on research conducted in Work Package 2: Innovative Action Plan for the Logistics Stage. It detailed the development of smart containers equipped with advanced sensors to conduct respiration studies and create optimal atmospheres for specific fresh produce. Additionally, it showcased bio-based compostable packaging solutions and shared results from live transportation and storage tests using apples, spinach, peppers, mushrooms, strawberries, raspberries, salmon, and cheese.

The event facilitated discussions with attendees on food loss and waste within the EU and how the SISTERS project contributes to addressing these challenges. By leveraging smart sensors and innovative packaging solutions such as the Bulk Box and Store Box, which aim to preserve food freshness during transportation and storage, the project supports efforts to reduce food loss across the supply chain.
