Do you know what #FoodWaste means?
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations defines “food waste” as the discard of edible foods at the retail and consumer levels, distinguishing it from “food loss” which is the reduction in edible food mass at the production, post-harvest, and processing stages of the food value chain. Food waste and loss is a critical worldwide problem, since globally around 1 billion tonnes of food are discarded every year. This translates into serious negative impacts on the sustainability of the worldwide food system, with severe social, environmental, and economic impacts.
What is the World Agriculture Day?
World Agriculture Day, celebrated on September 9th, is an occasion that specifically highlights the importance of agriculture and the contributions of farmers to the global food supply. This day is dedicated to recognizing the vital role that agriculture plays in sustaining economies, providing livelihoods, and ensuring food security around the world.
Meet Regioneo, SISTERS digital solution
Regioneo, Europe’s first digital short chain solution, enables producers to sell their discarded produce directly to consumers. This solution not only strengthens local economies, but also offers access to nutritious and healthy food. Available in seven European languages, with plans to expand to all official EU languages, Regioneo represents a significant opportunity for producers.
